Food Pyramid Lesson

One important thing children should learn early on is nutrition.  This is most likely why it is incorporated into the second grade curriculum.  A fun way to introduce the food pyramid is to bring in a tangible sample of food from each section: fats (every kids favorite), grains, dairy, poultry, vegetables, and fruit.  Along with doing this should be a lesson plan pertaining to the food pyramid.  This could be reading a book, such as Too Much Junk Food and analyzing the book with the students.  They can journal, for one day, what they ate and how much.  Then, the class can analyze together how much or how little they had of each section on the pyramid to see where they need to add food or take away food.
